The tree was the first piece of furnishing I bought when we returned home just before Christmas even if construction was still ongoing twelve years ago. Our family of five shared my daughters’ rooms with a shared bathroom in the second level of the house. The ground floor was ground zero. A student of mine I helped with his thesis had to wade through construction materials to find me when he brought a box of apples.
I remember the kids getting tired of always going out to eat and wanted to have a home cooked meals which was difficult because our kitchen was wide open. We compromised and would take home meals bought from fastfood and restos. In another time, it would have been the kind of dining experience to relish but it was hardly that at that time.
